This movie was shot with a high speed camera at 13000 frames per second. It shows cavitation inside a Plexiglas model of a 2″ globe valve typically used in nuclear power plant.

Pressure reduces inside of recirculations. Here you can see the cavitation rope appearing in the lower chamber at the center of the recirculation created just after the intersection between the upstream duct and the chamber. This rope can appear under any experimental condition as far as the flow rate is high enough. It is created mostly on the left side proving that the flow inside the valve in asymmetric. This asymmetry is not believed to come from any asymmetry in the model: the flow path is naturally asymmetric in a globe valve.
